WebSep 16, 2024 · A new endophytic fungal species, Neopestalotiopsis hadrolaeliae, is described from roots of Hadrolaelia jongheana, an endangered orchid species growing in Brazil. Multigene phylogenetic analyses coupled with morphological observations facilitated the identification of new species isolated from the roots of Hadrolaelia jongheana. WebIn addition to the readily culturable endophytes, there are also reports of the presence in orchid roots of fungi that cannot be isolated. Thus, for example, despite microscopic evidence for the presence of peloton-forming fungi in the roots of Cypripedium acauleand Malaxis monophyllos,Zelmer et al.(1996)were unable to isolate the fungi involved.
